According to Drudge Report, “ABC is refusing to air paid ads during its White House health care presentation, including a paid-for alternative viewpoint!”

The President will have the opportunity to present his $1 Trillion plan uninterrupted by such trifling things as other ideas or opinions. In his defense, if I were trying to get the American people to swallow another trillion dollars, I’d want them to be as focused as possible. Fortunately for him, the state run American Broadcasting Company has refused to sell air time to Conservatives for Patients Rights. Chairman Rick Scott said,

“It is unfortunate – and unusual – that ABC is refusing to accept paid advertising that would present an alternative viewpoint for the White House health care event. Health care is an issue that touches every American and all potential pieces of legislation have carried a pricetag in excess of $1 trillion of taxpayers’ money. The American people deserve a healthy, robust debate on this issue and ABC’s decision – as of now – to exclude even paid advertisements that present an alternative view does a disservice to the public… ” [emphasis mine]

Barack Obama has been on the campaign trail so long that even obnoxiously liberal “comedian” Bill Maher is sick of seeing him on TV. Obama now has an absolute free reign & unfettered opportunity to sell his product in prime time.

ABC is a disgrace, and they have lost all journalistic credibility. I can’t imagine a logical explanation for how a network “news” outlet would have the stones to proceed as such. Please contact ABC “News” again and tell them how disappointed you are that they would sell out as they have. Then, contact their sponsors and let them know how disappointed you are. Finally, contact Disney (ABC’s parent company) and let them know how disappointed you are in ABC news.

For doing what!?!?!?!?! What the heck have they done, you haven’t even seen the special yet?

I’m sure that a sit down with the President and a special afterward will be 100% balanced in the information presented.

I agree that there should be oppositional voices heard. Perhaps the republicans (or anyone who opposes the plan) should have a press conference scheduled immediately following the conclusion of ABC’s presentation, similar to the response to the state of the union address.

(though I wouldn’t recommend Jindal unless the targeted audience is the Sesame Street crowd)

I honestly dont care much about the substance of this… The truth is there are plenty of media outlets to go around, and plenty of ways for everyone to say thier peice (including this one) Whats so concerning is the sky is falling mentality some people have.

In your response on the other post you actually wrote that this “= state run media” um… No it doesn’t. That you would put quotes around “No one will oppose the president on our network” when its not a quote…That you would say ABC has become the OFFICIAL mouthpiece of the Obama administration… Bank intervention is Socialism. These words have definitions…Seriously.

Kristin – I like the response by the other side proposal. Unfortunately ABC won’t sell the time.

Banks – I believe that ABC & NBC of the major networks in particular have taken on an obvious Pro-Obam bias. This latest schtick (presentation of one side of the argument on a $1 T deal and refusing to give the other side equal time) indicates that it is promoting the administrations proposal. In that sense, in this situation, ABC is the Official mouthpiece of the administration because it is offering a one sided microphone for the administration. I don’t see how it can be seen any other way.

You say intervention in the banks, auto industry, insurance industry, etc. I say control. It’s not just benevolent intervention. The Obama regime has fired executives, set salary & bonus limits, and forged mergers (Chrysler/Fiat). That’s not intervention, that’s control. The American Heritage Dictionary defines socialism as, “Any of various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy.”

I choose my words carefully.

ABC doesn’t need to sell air time. If a bunch of republicans call a press conference any media who wants to cover it will show up and air it on their own stations for FREE! Isn’t that more cost effective than trying to buy air time on 1 station?

If you can read that definition and think that it applies to how we operate our economy then there really isn’t much room for discussion.
The mouthpiece stuff would be absolutely great if it said something like ABC in the bag for Obama, or ABC becomes unofficial mouthpiece etc… but the word OFFICIAL means something.
Much like I am the voice of reason on this blog but you are still the OFFICial everything. See how that works.
ABC and NBC so seem pretty pro obama. FOX and Talk Radio seem pretty pro… oh, wait ya’ll dont have a person.. but pro..whatever…I guess pro being against everything. Why is that just all such a crime now? Today? Because it’s about something you disagree with? Is that the criteria for media bias being offensive?
Why should ABC change their 50 year old policy of not selling ad time to advocacy groups just because the RNC wants them too? They couldn’t buy that time last week or today or 3 months from now. Plus we all know the total assets on the RNC are something like $17 and a bunch of change we can believe in shirts so I’m sure the offer was just made so it could be rejected.

ABC shouldn’t have to sell time to an advocacy group. The other party in congress is hardly an advocacy group when it comes to major legislation. They should have given them the time, since they’re giving it free of charge to the Democrat advocacy group.

I also don’t know where your financial numbers come from. These numbers say something different. The Dems have more cash on hand b/c they don’t pay their bills and their slight edge (due to a Dem fundraiser) isn’t bad considering that the Repulicans have one foot in the grave on their way to becoming a minor regional party. Imagine what we would have if we didn’t have objections to spending money we don’t have and not paying the bills we rack up.

Finally, I see your point on “official.” It’s like you heralding the “nothing to see behind th curtain” party line. It’s really not official unless it comes from the Wonderful Wizard Himself. ABC isn’t really official since they chose themselves to be administrational prostitutes. Good point. I missed that earlier because I naturally assumed you were trying to make an important point with substance relevant to the debate rather than quibbling the definition of “official.” I’ll be more careful next time.

I take issue with your demeaning of prostitutes. They earn an honest days pay for an honest days work. Few television news networks (and politicians for that matter) can say the same.

Also, I still don’t get why the republicans can’t call a press conference to give a rebut the president’s plan. I’m all for hearing many ideas. But at this point, crying censorship or media bias when there are other options available just kinda seems like, well, whining. And that bores me.

This is CRAZY!!! I’m watching this thing on TV where the president is being asked questions and he is answering them. I’ve never seen anything like it. Will this propaganda machine never stop?!??

You always get tingly when your crush comes on TV. I understand. I used to get like that when Kelly from 90210 came on when I was in High School.

Questions… did he mention at all (I didn’t watch it) that a) Republicans say… or b) those who oppose the bill… if he said that, then the conservatives that he misrepresented should have had the opportunity to rebut. Otherwise, it was simply a free media publicity/propaganda piece by ABC. I’m sure you and Chris Matthews were very impressed by the whole thing!

Well ignoring the substance… (which BTW was wonderful, sonthing like watching michaelangelo paint, and did make me a little tingly, I haven’t talked to Chris but I’m sure he felt the same thing) I was simply making the point that is was just the same ol televised town hall presidential interview that has been done over and over for as long as i’ve been alive. Not quite the socialist revolution you made it out to be. I dont think he actually came out and said that anyone who would dare oppose this genius proposal that will save us from financial ruin was a moron or anything but it was so obvious he didn’t need to. He did mention some of the arguments against and something about 2 trillion dollars but I was so enchanted by his confidence and how gracefully his suit jacket rests on his broad shoulders I don’t remember most of that stuff.
