Thanks to 3rd base politics for the video!

So, our President, you know the one who was called a “centrist” during the election because of his vows to cut taxes for 95% of Americans, won’t directly answer the question about whether tax cuts are still a part of his plan. In case you wondered, they’re not. It makes one think…

  1. If he believed then that tax cuts would work, what changed his mind? Either tax cuts work and are a good idea, or they’re not. He guaranteed to work on health care, energy, and education, which he knew was going to cost money. So why did he think then that he could spend like crazy and STILL cut taxes? I don’t think he ever planned to cut taxes. It seems he planned only to win an election, and Walter Mondale proved that you can’t win on a raising taxes platform. Hopefully for us, George H.W. Bush proved that you can’t get re-elected after promising not to, and then doing it.
  2. He still won’t just say it. He’s already doing whatever he wants to do without regard to whether anyone cares or not. Why wouldn’t he? He just blames it on Bush and moves forward. Why not then just say, “Hey, it’s not working out. You’re all going to have to fork it over.”

The candidate of change, once again, is Democratic politics as usual.

I shouldn’t be surprised anymore, but once again , you completely ignore the truth in making most of these posts.
The Tax cuts are still part of the proposed budget. This is not difficult infomation to , find, the budget proposal is readily available. The only thing you’ll have difficulty finding is the republican budget rpoposal. It doesn’t ecist. Pretty easy to say everythings wrong without making and alternate proposal. http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/assets/fy2010_new_era/Jumpstarting_The_Economy.pdf

THe question was whether he’d refuse to sign a bill without certain things in it. It would be pretty short sighted to refuse to sign some hypothetical bill that hasn’t even been proposed.

Also, where are the HUGE tax increases? The proposed tax increse is to raise the 33% bracket to 36% just as is was in the Reagan and Bush 1 years. And Reagan (and all presidents before that) had many more higher brackets above that one of 40%, 50% even some up to 90%. It was the Clinton/ Republican Congress years that eliminated these huge taxes on the highest earners. To suggest that is any kind of HUGE tax increase is not true just from the 2007 vs 2010 perspective. But espescially when you look at the long term historical perspective, its a flat out ridiculous thing to say. And you saying it over and over and over on this page isn’t going to make it true.

Oh, thats not tough information to find either: http://www.truthandpolitics.org/top-rates.php

I don’t ignore the truth, I just don’t cover it up.

1. Tax credits are not tax cuts. Neither are lower interest rates, which your guy apparently counts… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWTMM6aERHM

2. As for the Republican budget proposal, that’s pretty much an insignificant point. They aren’t the ones who campaigned on a platform of cutting taxes for 95% of Americans, or those making less than $250,000 per year. If that was still the plan, why not just say so? As for criticizing without making alternate proposals, that’s been the status quo for the past 8 years. I thought that’s how things were done.

3. The huge tax increases include the 33% bracket right now. My issue is that I don’t believe what he says. When he says, “I’m going to focus on health care(universal. It’s coming, and to deny it is either maliciously misinformed or decidedly blind), energy (cap & trade, re-instating the off shore moratoriums), and education,” that agenda is going to cost. A lot. Throw in a couple of pork laden “stimulus” packages and the numbers just don’t add up. Tax increases are coming. No way around it. Maybe not this year, but in years to come.

The problem with Obama, and apparently his supporters too, is that they can’t or won’t look past the 2007 to 2010 perspective. That’s fine. His term is up in 2012. Again, if his plan remained the same, and he were still planning on cutting taxes for those making less than $200,000, why not just say it?

1. Tax credits are tax cuts.

2. He campained on exactly the plan thats been proposed. He has said so. over and over and over. (you posted the video remember) He just isn’t willing to refuse to sign a hypothetical bill that doesn’t exist (review your own video)

3. Love the continued use of the word HUGE here. cute. I’m not aware of anyone who has denied wanting universal health covverage. (Just continue to beat that strawman) I sure hope it is coming, should be cheaper and more effective. Energy. Cap and trade raises revenue for the government, why would a tax icrease be needed to pay for that. (and remember that nominal personal income tax rates are the only thing that count as taxes, so don’t bring that weak “its just a new corporate tax” stuff) Education, Might have to bring back the 50% rate at about the 5mill income level for that one. (wonder if that would help control any of those 50mill wall street bonuses?)

The problem with me- The whole point (OF ALL THIS STUFF) is our (if I may be so bold) attempt to build a country thats not so concerned with the earth salting consumption oriented policies of the last 20 years. We are attempting to build a country that has the best infrastructure, best educational system, best health care, all with the least corruption in the world for the next 100 years. The days of the wild wild west, every gun for themselves are over (or should be) and we have to build a SOCIETY that is one nation for all not every man for themselves.

The paranoia of a large prtion of society that someone is going to steal from the rich to give welfare to the poor is difficult to overcome, but thats just NOT what is happening. You rail about entitlement programs that dont exist and rail some more about huge tax increases and socialism that doesn’t exist and just beat those strawmen to death just on some imaginary principles passed down for generations (they were passed to me as well) All the while ignoring the truth about what is ACTUALLY happening.

He does say so over and over and over (remember, you posted the video)

1. Tax credits aren’t tax cuts. Tax credits go to people who don’t pay taxes. You can’t cut what someone doesn’t pay. That is an entitlement, and it panders to the left.

2. The question is, “Will you sign a budget if it does not contain a middle class tax cut?” He promised a middle tax class cut over and over and over again. If it’s what he promised, then why would he not sign it? If I promise to have pancakes for breakfast, and someone asks me if I will have breakfast if it doesn’t contain pancakes… that’s an easy answer.

3. Universal Health Care is not a straw man, and I don’t want universal health care. I think it’s a horrible idea on every conceivable level. I think the care suffers, it costs too much, and what in the name of anything good and decent makes you or anyone think the government is qualified or able to run a health care system? You’ve clearly never talked to anyone in Canada or France. It is NOT cheaper, and it is NOT more effective. It takes forever, and it costs you every pay check. Same thing for education, what gives government the right to mandate legislation? The constitution sure doesn’t? Education is not a federal matter in the least, not to mention that they are totally unqualified in every way to do that. Show me one area where government is efficient, aside from the military, or show me one government model that you would like to see be the framework for you children’s schooling.

I don’t like your definition of tax. That’s exactly the slippery language that The One uses, and it doesn’t work. It’s only not a tax if I can opt out. If it’s mandated by the government, it is a tax. Cap & trade will cost you and I (tax us) every time we turn on our air conditioner or heater. It is a tax in that it is a cost to us, brought on by government legislation. It is an involuntary financial burden on citizens b/c of government action.

Mr. Banks, I feel your head is in the sand on this one. I don’t think helping the least of these is wrong. I think it’s ABSOLUTELY right. My hope for America is that it continues to be the greatest, best place in the world. I believe it will be. I just don’t believe the government can get us there. Government control of business IS socialism. Think the USSR’s Central Planning. Your Kool-Aid mustachioed refusal to look at what Dear Leader is doing doesn’t mean it’s not happening. The President of the United States effectively fired the CEO of a privately held corporation yesterday.

What is actually happening is that government is increasingly encroaching into the private sector, exerting more and more influence (control) over what is going on. He wants to “transform” health care and education. How do you think he wants to do that? By enticing the best and brightest from the private sector to engage? To encourage competition? Or to regulate, mandate, and legislate? If it’s the former, then I will publicly apologize for wrongly categorizing our President. If it’s the latter, then I’m sure you’d be willing to do the same.
